General Overview
The Gold Coast is full of amazing breaks such as Snapper, Kirra, and Burleigh Heads. A little jewel of the Gold Coast is on South Stradbroke Island. This small island is accessible via a ferry or a paddle over a river mouth. If you are going to paddle, make sure you catch it at the right tidal swing or you might be pushed out to sea or sucked into the canals. Another little nugget of information is that sharks LOVE to breed in the canal openings so paddle fast and get to TOS. This break produces some great near shore barrels that are fast and fun. Be sure to bring your performance shortboard and a spare one if you can mange. I have seen more than my fair share of broken boards wash up on the beach. Look for the pipe blasting sand and you will find sandbars blasting barrels.
