Matadeiro is an excelling beach break, located adjacent to Praia da Armação. It can be accessed by crossing the river from Armação. The wave is powerful and offers short rides. Typically, Matadeiro is crowded and you need to respect the locals. On big days, the waves tend to break more toward the middle of beach, whereas on small days they break close to the rocks. Many many years ago, Matadeiro was a place where the fishermen would to kill the whales that they caught.
