Located just to the South of Ahipara beach is Shipwreck Bay, one of the best left point breaks in New Zealand. Your best bet is a Southwest swell which wraps around the point and a Southwest wind which blows perfectly offshore. It’s a bit of a hike to Shipwreck Bay, but you’ll be glad you went for it. The locals know that you can drive your car to the spot, but be sure that you are not there for an incoming tide.
