Playa Maderas is the best and closest break to San Juan Del Sur and can therefore be very crowded. Unfortunately it is not easy to get to either and requires a 15 minute drive north from town on a pretty gnarly road.
Nevertheless, the location is incredibly beautiful and well worth the hassle if you are staying in San Juan Del Sur. It is a fast and somewhat wally wave that can sometimes offer up makable barrels and is almost always rideable.
The best way to experience this wave is to stay at one of the funky eco-lodges which are a 15 minute walk along the beach to the north.
