General Overview

This long stretch of beach works best on North and Northwest swells offering up both lefts and rights with less than desired shape on most days. The pier has its regulars on each side and a lot of surfers congregate in front of the parking lot at 28th street, but the sand bars shift so find someplace un-crowded and go get some.
Being in the heart of the South Bay, there is plenty of post-surf activity and solid nightlife as well. Just don't get run over by one of a million Land Rovers.

HAZARDS Manhattan Beach Pier
Any spot between the pier and Rosecrans is decent on most days. There's a good mix of surfers and bodyboarders, and like Porto, can get crowded on stand-out days. Can get huge (mostly walled up) during the winter!

If you live in the area, surfing at the MB pier or any of the avenues offers some good surf. The problem, as with most LA beach breaks, is that it tends to close out with any size.
