General Overview
North Oregon’s resort community of Cannon Beach is close to the Washington State line and less then 30 miles from big city Portland. This part of Oregon’s rugged coastline is lush, rain soaked and stunningly beautiful. Cannon Beach is saturated with hotels, motels and inns and in the summer months overrun with tourists looking for that special rustic Oregon experience.
For the visiting surfer it’s basically miles of surfable beach-breaks. When it's small and clean try catching a sand bar at the mouth Ecola Creek or the wind protected white sands of Short Sands Beach that is accessed by a 20-minute hike through old growth forest. A wonderful spot to enjoy the scenery but the chances of finding any substantial surf is nil.
