Fiji is a cluster of volcanic islands in the South Pacific with crystal blue water, a wealth of world class surf, warm and friendly locals and breathtaking scenery. Home to the world’s third largest barrier reef, Fiji is truly a diver and surfer’s paradise. The climate here is perfect most of the year with the exception of the wet season (November through March) when there is an increase in humidity and rain.
Most of Fiji’s surf breaks are accessible only by boat and this helps regulate the crowd factor. When the wind, swell, and tides are just right, you’ll be surfing waves you’ve only dreamed of without worrying about anyone else dropping in on your perfect wave. Due to its exposure to a variety of distant weather patterns, Fiji serves up great surf year round. Fiji can be surprisingly affordable but understand that most of the surf here is not for beginners due to the number of dangerous reef breaks. If you can handle it, hop on a plane and escape to one of the most picturesque and ideal surf getaway in the world!
Health: There aren't many serious health risks in Fiji. Protect yourself against mosquito borne illnesses and be wary of sun burns and heat exhaustion.
Safety: Fiji is relatively safe with a low crime rate. Mugging is not uncommon so be alert for potentially dangerous situations. Fijian culture encourages sharing and sometime items may go missing but are really being "borrowed" by natives. Be wary of currents and tides as well as venomous creatures and sharks in the water. Wearing boots and helmets in the water is advisable. On a side note, Fijians consider the head to be sacred so never touch anyone on the head for any reason!
